Sweet Roses CD Cover

Released: 2010

Perhaps you were looking for something tasteful and easy on the ears? Something mellow and somewhat ethereal? "Sweet Roses" from AJ Unity might just do the trick for you.

AJ Unity - Naomi Suzuki and Philipp M. Moll - don't do aggression. There's not a song here that will slap you in the face and, in fact, every song on this album washes over you like a warm morning shower. Stylistically, this duo stay in the ambient electronica part of town in a house previously occupied by Vangelis and Ryuichi Sakamoto and they don't go to the musical supermarket  for new ideas too often either. Ms Suzuki's hushed tones are certainly appealing and well suited to this iPod style of music but Mr Moll's vocals make an uncomfortable pairing this being particularly apparent on "Roses" and the otherwise elegant "Graceful".

All in all, "Sweet Roses" is a decent and inoffensive album even if the songs do tend to merge into one (but that might well have been the plan). An easy album to like then but perhaps a hard one to love.
